1047 Games has revealed that Splitgate 2 will relaunch later this year after ending its final beta playtest.

The free-to-play first-person arena shooter returns several months after reverting to beta following an underwhelming global launch.

Splitgate 2 held its final beta playtest from November 22nd to 23rd, 2025, reaching the final stretch after six months of development. The test sought to gather feedback from fans on party modes, classic and loadout arenas, the Karman Station map and more.

In the announcement, 1047 Games wrote: “On December 4th, the Beta Season & active Battle Passes will be ending, alongside your seasonal ‘rank’ progress. We will also be taking the Beta servers offline on the 4th to prepare for relaunch later in December.”

Splitgate 2 was released earlier this year to mixed responses online, with players criticising the state of the game, from the Ranked system to bundle prices.

The game’s reputation would continue to decline in light of several controversies that surfaced. This included 1047 Games’ CEO Ian Proulx’s choice of headwear at the Summer Game Fest, and an apology from the studio’s Social Media Manager for comments against Call of Duty developers.

Fans also became concerned for the future of the game in light of layoffs at 1047 Games after the game returned to beta.

Can Splitgate 2 Become an Esport?

Splitgate 2 has always had the potential to foster an esports scene, boasting a high skill ceiling as a result of its portal mechanics and arena shooter format.

Despite not having an official esports event since its launch back in May 22nd, various community competitions were held this year.

The Splitgate Showdown, which ran from June 13th to 23rd, was a community event where players represented a content creator’s team to unlock in-game rewards. These included popular influencers and streamers such as Michael ‘Shroud‘ Grzesiek, Timothy ‘John ‘Timethetatman‘ Betar, and Matthew ‘Nadeshot‘ Haag, among others.

Splitgate 2 is determined to return with a clean slate, relaunching with the hopes of achieving greater success than its previous run. If the game proves to be a smash hit and player sentiment rebounds, the prospect of an esports scene becomes far more plausible.
