If you’re hoping to snag Apple’s new foldable iPhone Duo, well, join the long and slow-moving line. CEO John Ternus says the company can’t predict when iPhone Duo supply will catch up with demand. After this week’s earnings report, Ternus told Reuters that the first foldable iPhone is still limited, even as production increases.
The iPhone Duo launched on October 23 following a week of preorders. Demand quickly exceeded supply, and new orders now show January delivery estimates, though the occasional order was being shifted forward toward the end of the month. Rising memory costs and other component shortages are likely affecting the Duo factory line, though Apple hasn’t shared a specific parts or production problem.
Ternus also addressed reports about the iPhone Duo’s infamous display problems, AKA “Crackgate.” He said a very small percentage of iPhone Duo units came back with display issues and are being replaced free of charge. The company has not disclosed the exact number of affected units, the cause, or a replacement timeline, though affected customers are encouraged to contact AppleCare support.
